Purpose: To achieve competencies that can assist the implementation of evidence based health promotion in the hospitals setting, based on tools developed by WHO regional office for the European region i.e. Standards for Health Promotion in Hospitals and Self-assessment Tool for Pilot Implementation.
Prerequisite: In preparation for the Summer school the participants are expected to:
- Conduct a self-assessment in their own ward/department/hospital/region etc using the tool developed by the WHO regional office for the European region (available at: www.euro.who.int)
- Prepare a short description of the results achieved from the testing of the WHO-self assessment tool for pilot implementation.
- Identify a target area that would be relevant to discuss and develop in the group sessions (e.g. smoking cessation for patients or employees).
- Discuss the identified target area and the expected outcome of an implementation with the management of your ward/department/hospital/region
- Bring a description of your own institution (ward/department/hospital/region) including:
- Characteristics of the patients
- Organisational structure of management and health promotion
- Guidelines and other relevant parameters eg which preventive measures are already in place
It is a good idea, to discuss with colleagues and management, the ambitions (grade), strengths and limitations in relation to a future implementation. In addition, to investigate the possibilities to include an evaluation of the implementation in an existing quality assurance programme.
Are useful data already available for monitoring the interventions?
