Annually 500,000 operations take place at Danish hospitals. About one third of the patients are smokers. 10% drink too much.
Preventive efforts reduce surgical complications for the benefit of the individual patient. Additionally, you save many resources. The efforts comprise nutrition, physical activity, alcohol, tobacco and other factors.
The purpose of this book is to give the health care personnel at hospitals a tool that enables them to carry through systematic preventive efforts for surgical patients.
A panel composed of health care individuals, representing various health care sectors and various specialties, wrote the book. The panel was experienced and had carried out research in the area.
