Smoking Cessation at Hospital
Facts, Methods and Recommendation

Approximately one third of the Danish adult population are smokers. Half of these die from diseases caused by tobacco. It is documented that preventive smoking measures are effective. In spite of this, preventive efforts in connection with tobacco related diseases are not systematized within the Danish health services.

The purpose of this book is to give the health care personnel at hospitals a tool that enables them to carry through systematic efforts to help patients who are smokers and their families. The book presents the theoretical basis, the methodological basis and recommendations for conversations about smoking habits and about advice on how to stop smoking.
